I compared what was present on the Windows 7 USB controllers (in Device Manager) to what was present on the Windows 8.1 controllers and i found that my Intel(R) USB 3.0 extensible host controller - 0100 (Microsoft) and my USB Root Hub (xHCI) was missing on my Windows 8.1 partition. I'm havig issues with my HP probook 440, it has refused to recognize any USB device, on the device manage i see an issue 'usb xhci compliant host controller '

Kindly assist with what can be done to ensure this laptop recognize USB devices again.

Hi there,

Same happened to me because of the last windows 8.1 update. The only solution I found was to restore to an old backup. I cannot find the driver which would solve this problem. (Got an HP Envy17)
